Use request
New requests for the use of our archives have to be registered by means of a written application. For this purpose, please send us the completed form including your declaration of consent to the usage regulations.
Rules of use
The use of the archival holdings is subject to the rules of use (Download Benutzungsordnung (PDF, 108 KB) in German) of the Archives of Contemporary History. Most of the holdings are accessible without any conditions; the only requirement is a completed use request. In some cases, special applications are required for access.
Fees
The use of archive material is free of charge. For reproduction as well as for complex research requests, the rates of the Download scale of fees (PDF, 122 KB) apply.
Cameras
The use of cameras is permitted. Borrowing of archival or library materials is not possible.
Order
You can order records by means of a memo list generated in the virtual reading room to the user service.
Delivery terms
Please note that extended delivery times apply to all archive holdings located in external depots. An order therefore should be submitted at least 24 hours before your visit to the Archives. Original documents can also be ordered on site from the user service and then consulted in the reading room.
For fonds subject to application, an administrative effort of several days must be expected.
Registration
Please register your visit to the Archives in advance with the . This will make it easier for you to prepare for your visit and enable competent advice from the specialist staff.
Location
The Archives of Contemporary History are located at Hirschengraben 62, a few minutes' walk from Zurich Main Station, in the immediate vicinity of the Central Library and the main buildings of ETH Zurich and University (see map below).
The reading room equipped with the necessary infrastructure is available for consultation of ordered archive material.
