Archive Christian Solidarity International

Christian Solidarity International (CSI) is a Christian relief organization headquartered in the canton of Zurich. Founded in 1977 by Pastor Hansjürg Stückelberger it organized silent marches for persecuted Christians in the Soviet Union.

Buying and freeing slaves

In the 1990s, CSI freed Christian slaves from South Sudan who had been abducted to the Muslim-Islamic north.

This strategy came under criticism for creating financial incentives for further abductions. By 2012, CSI said it had freed around 100,000 slaves in Sudan.

CSI has been and continues to be active in numerous countries. It focuses its project selection on areas where Christians are victims of religious violence and discrimination.

Current main areas of activity are Syria, Iraq, Egypt, South Sudan, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, Nicaragua, Peru and Latvia.

Archiving project

CSI's extensive archives include reports and organizational material on humanitarian operations, political work, public relations, and fundraising. Extensive audiovisual material has also been preserved.

The CSI archive was taken over in 2019. The safeguarding and indexing project is supported by CSI and the ETH Foundation.
